Positive Spin on Negative Thinking

I have read many posts lately on the negative points of being in Real Estate. Not so cooperative co-ops, mortgage lenders, lack of respect and customer service and so on. It all gets pretty depressing after a while so I thought I would focus on the positive aspects.

When I chose to start a career in Real Estate I was excited! As a person I have this need to go home at the end of the day knowing that I accomplished something and better yet that it was beneficial to someone. Having worked in a corporate atmosphere I was tired of political games and endless days of repetition. I knew that as an agent hard work, honesty and integrity would actually keep me going.

So, as some motivation for myself and Positive food for thought I wanted to get back to basics. Here are some reasons I LOVE Real Estate.

  • It's all about my clients!  It's not about a promotion or a raise. I get to help make people's dreams come true!  Knowing at the end of the day that I made a positive difference in someone's life feels great!
  • Working in a Professional atmosphere.
  • Meeting other great people in the industry!  There really are some great agents, lenders, and other vendors out there!
  • No day is ever the same. I can honestly say that every day holds something new. No Repetition!
  • Real Estate! I have always believed in Real Estate as a great investment and homeownership being part of the American Dream!
  • Marketing.  Coming up with new marketing ideas! I always thought it would be fun to make a Nike commercial or something. Being Creative with listings-I actually enjoy that!
  • The Challenge! Yes, I was an athlete in younger times and love the competition with sportsmanship!

This is just a small part of what I enjoy!  I just remember that through the negatives there are many more positives.  Success stories are what should make us stay excited about what we do!  It really is about the clients future, not the negatives that we encounter everyday. I would love to hear what keeps everyone else going!

I don't find the negativity to be depressing, just the opposite.  It makes me strive not to be placed in that category by being the best that I can be.  No, I wasn't in the US Army, I was in the Marines!

Stephanie - you are a doll......keep up the positive outlook and sell tons of houses! I usually look to cause a little controversy in these posts.........just for laughs and to keep people on their toes......but your post is just adorable. How long have you been in the business? I hope you reach all your goals and all your dreams come true. Donna

Roger- That is a great way to look at it!

Donna- Thank you and it's always good to keep people on their toes! I am actually at the end of my 4th year. Seems like a lifetime!

Bruno- I came across Active Rain by accident actually. I don't know why agents don't use it a lot down here. It's a great tool!

Thanks everyone for your comments!

I love to complain.  It's kind of like a hobby.  But make no mistake about it.  Real estate is a great career.  I help people build retirements and fortunes.  I help them provide safe, clean, affordable housing.  And I get compensated rather nicely for doing so.  At the end of the day what I do matters.  That's important to me.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing all the positives.  You are right that we often read a few more of the negative aspects of the industry.  This is definitely an industry that you can thrive in if you love challenge, meeting great people, learning something every day, marketing and making a difference in peoples lives.

How about being your own boss?  Independence?  Excellent positives too.

If it was all great, there would be entirely too many Realtors.

I love the postive outlook, but the negative has a time and a place.  Sometimes you just need to vent, others you need advice on what to do.....

The best thing about real estate is being my own boss and charting my own course!!!

I totally agree with that Chris!  I have complete power over how busy I am. I'm telling you, the corporate atmosphere "hurry up, wait" just isn't for me.  I get to take my ideas and run with it! Thanks!

Real Estate is a great BUSINESS!  You get to draw on all your talents to create interesting marketing campaigns and work with many different people.  Even the problem clients give you the opportunity to perfect your communication and negotiating skills.  As far as repetition there is also plenty of that from my viewpoint,  browsing through the MLS, selecting properties, mapping out a tour schedule...

Hi Stephanie - Like you, I LOVE being in this great busines we're in!  When I hear someone being negative about it, I just either physically remove myself from that conversation, or I allow my mind to take me somewhere else.  Negativity, if allowed to invade your terrritory, can be very disruptive, and certainly want none of that!

Great post!

We DO need to concentrate on what we do well.  If not, we are buying into the public perception that we do not add much value to the homebuying process.

Stephanie - YES! You get it! I too love the real estate business - there is nothing that I would rather do. Your reasons are very similar to mine.
