Those of you that know me, you know that I believe that the topics of Green go much further than Global Warming. It seems that the term Global Warming tends to make many people oppose the idea of Going Green, being better stewards of the Earth, etc.
The truth is, we can take the term Global Warming completely out of the picture. It really is time to consider change.
(Before you scroll down to comment or debate, please keep reading) I was searching online yesterday for a completely unrelated issue and came across a GEM of a website. It is put out by The Weather Channel and I thought I would share.
The Earth is Changing. It has changed and will continue. Do we need to Debate Global Warming? Not really and I will explain by topic. The links are for videos; each video is less than 3 minutes long but the message they put out are absolutely amazing.
Melting Glaciers: How does this affect us? Is it really an issue right now? This is one of the hot topics. Check out how the Glaciers have changed.
- Alaska Ice Sheets- The quote in my title came from this video.
- The New Tourist Attraction
Garbage: Recycling is getting a little more common. How else does throwing garbage everywhere hurt us?
Both of these topics are one that we either do not want to hear about, or that many do not believe in. When you see how things are changing, it sort of puts everything in to perspective. Does it make sense to pull together, all differences in thoughts aside, and consider how to fix/change all of this?
Now, for those of you wanting to know HOW IN THE WORLD this is Related to Real Estate....Stay Tuned. :)

Stephanie,
I think we live in such a polarized society, that it's almost impossible to 'de-politicize' us...any solutions will require an apolitical viewpoint to gain any substantial grass roots support. Also I think that each person must begin to think 'green', not to satisfy a political agenda or even bacause it may be PC...but just because it's right to think and consider the welfare of others before we feed our own selfish desires!!! JMHO, Thanks, Fran
My husband and I watch History and National Geographic channels. When we saw with our own eyes about how things are changing it gave us a different perspective. China has horrendous pollution because of coal burning and it definitely affects our earth. How could it not?
Stephanie--I know many people who are becoming as immune to the words "global warming" as they are to the gloom and doom of real estate. It is an over used term and often used incorrectly.
There is a climate change going on and we all have to be aware of it. We also should be good stewards of the earth and try to understand what we can do to slow these changes. Your posts continue to educate us all!
Stephanie - We can always count on you to give us the straight green scoop - I am looking forward to learning more from you! Thanks.
Hi Fran, That is what I am trying to do. I think people need to realize...no matter their beliefs or political alliance....that something needs to get done. Whether it is cyclical or caused by us is pretty much irrelevant at this point. IMO. Maybe some more people will get it. :)
No matter what your political persuasion, the public needs to understand that the good times just can't keep on a-rolling when it comes to pollution and particularly carbon dioxide emissions.
We have to learn to stop wasting energy and to value our limited water resources. The recent drought has taught many Americans about the need to pay attention to water usage.
Hi Stephanie:
I personally can't watch or read anymore about global warming/climate change. Its here, its happening, and it is going to continue happening probably long after I have left the earth. It can be a difficult concept for many people to accept, because it involves humans changing our beliefs and behaviors. Americans in particular are not really good in embracing action plans that involve preventing or limiting disasters. We are, however, extremely good at responding to disasters once they have happened. We will pull together and do what has to be done to get through it.
So what do you think has to happen for us to get it?
Great post, looking forward to the next one.
1) Are you picking up the snow man or laying it down?
2) Garbage and sustainability go hand in hand. I recently heard on Living on Earth - NPR that approx 1/3 of landfills are full of clothing. Incredible isn't? And it doesn't help when we send clothing to other countries because they have enough or don't want it. Did you hear that the Asian Sunami victims received tons and tons of clothing and blankets? Completely unnecessary not to mention ridiculous.
