Do You Agree That Our Energy Issues Are A Problem?

Regardless of how you feel about Global Warming, I think most people agree that our Energy costs are out of sight.  Homeowners across the nation are noticing increased electric bills, higher prices at the pump, the desire for renewable energy like wind and solar (which many Homeowners Associations are against)-

In turn this is making us more Dependent on Oil, Gas and Energy Companies.  What would that do to our Bills?

Well, I visited the Congress Website today to find out that within the next few weeks they will be voting on a Renewable Energy and Conservation bill.  My Representative is currently voting NO to it...I have already emailed him.

I do not find myself to be either Conservative or Liberal...but I read what the Conservatives had to say about it.  It said, without quoting, that America has about another 100 years of coal left to use!  Why not use it?

Is there something wrong with that picture?  We have 100 Years of Coal?  Sorry, but if you take in to consideration the Billions of years that Earth has been around, 100 measly years is not a very long time.   I think the time to consider Renewable Energy and look to reduce our Energy Costs is NOW.

If you agree that we need to Take Control of Energy Issues, you may want to let your Representatives know about it.  If the Renewable Energy Bill goes bad, it could have a Negative Impact for many years to come.

Here are some links for you to read and so you can make see what side of the fence you are on...

"Repealing Subsidies to Big Oil"...for "renewable energy"

Republicans for Environmental Protection

If you take Global Warming out of the Picture, Renewable Energy is still a Smart Thing to Consider.

I agree wholeheartedly Stephanie!  Well done, we do need to take control of Energy Issues.  Hopefully, all of the candidates are thinking that same thing.

Hey Jason,  this is a HUGE bill.  Email your Rep...especially if the are Republican.  There are so many small items stuffed in to this bill it is unreal.  Read about it....and Thanks!!!!

My pet peave is Ethanol because without the government subsidy, it is cost prohibitive until oil reaches well over $100 a barrel.

You want to see something amazing... look at the country of iceland... all their electricity and hot water comes from Hydroelectric or Geothermal powerplants.

Hi Daniel,  I read an article today about Iceland.  It's quite amazing!   As far as Renewable Energy,  they are voting on whether or not to use it at an increasing rate over several years so that it is not cost prohibitive.  I think we should decide to use Renewables....then decide how.  If it gets voted down...we will be stuck with coal for many years.  :(

I'm a huge fan of geothermal heat... can you imagine how much energy could be produced by placing a plant near Yellowstone?  (Obviously outside and out of sight of the Park... wouldn't want to ruin the park =) )

Stephanie,

That is why my pool now has solar heating...although we still have gas we only use it if it is necessary and it saved us money. It also is good for the environment and my pump does not run any different on the electrical side with no additional costs..it also adds value to our home.

Hi Daniel,  Geothermal is good stuff.  I'm all for it.

Hi Neal,  Way to go!  I hope that this Renewable Energy Bill goes through....it may make it easier for all of us to do Solar.

I agree.  Calling my representative will do no good.  He's one of the ones that thinks poor kids shouldn't have access to doctors, and hey, he's a doctor!

Sounds like America is taking the same approach they did to vehicular contributions to global warming. Instead of dealing with it in the 70s, the did nothing, and are still doing nothing.

And I feel the same way about water. Why is desalinization not being used, instead of continually depleting our underground aquifers (Florida)?

It doesn't matter what our party affiliations are. Our government does not care what the people want. They only care about money and power.

Yeah. I'm very jaded about all things political.

Stephanie,

This energy problem is so entangled in politics that I'm afraid neither party has the correct solutions...I know our immediate problem is to reduce the price of gasoline and fuel oil. If we have other countries drilling off our shores for their financial benefit it is rather naive on our part not to do the same...God has blessed us with so many natural resources, that if we don't use them and at the same time care for them we don't appreciate His Goodness and Care! Thanks,   Fran

I'm fortunate, In Colorado there are several groups that will e-mail you every time a bill comes up either at the State level or National level. From these e-mails it's a simple click and your Representative is notified about how you feel on these issues. It also helps that Colorado has many plugged in Representatives who are striving to make our state more reliant on renewable energy. Governor Bill Ritter is really taking the ropes and driving us toward our goals. http://www.colorado.gov/energy/greening/index.asp

Stephanie, thanks for keeping us up to date on the issues.

If it wasn't for greed we would have done the right thing a long time ago.  Get rid of some of the special interest groups that want us drilling up Alaska, and now Yellowstone.....these too should not be allowed.  We need to preserve what we have for your kids and mine, plus our grandkids and their kids.

There is no easy answer, nor will we ever have a majority vote, but at least we can stand up and say enough is enough!!!

Stephanie- I do not think this is a party issue, this is a world issue. We may end up doing our part, which we should, but the most of the rest of the world just does not care about conservation or anything regarding helping the earth. Both parties have it wrong, both parties are run by who ever pays them the most. I am very conservative but this is the one area that I do not agree with my party line on. They both need to get a life and see what is real! I am very disappointed with most all politicians. Katerina

Stephanie, You brought up many important issues.  Surely our leaders are ensuring that we have future alternatives to provide us with our gas and electric usage in the future.  We have so many resources on our continent.  Politicians often don't have a clue to what is happening in the 'real world'.....most of them were born rich.

Stephanie - Thanks for the reminder regarding the energy bill. I like the feature on the Congress website where you can sign up for a weekly email showing how your elected officials have voted. What a great way to keep track of it! I signed up for it. Left to do it on my own I don't have time. Getting a weekly email will be nice!

Renewable Energy is such an important part of the picture. Americans spend way too much money on utilities. For instance in Michigan many struggle to pay their high gas costs throughout the winter. It is a shame that so much of the monthly budget has to go towards keeping warm....and many are unable to make their payments.

Renewable Energy policy will help make housing more affordable for all and the bonus is that it will help save our environment!

I could not agree with you more Stephanie!  That is a short sited view to think that we can table this discussion or not pursue alternative forms of energy because we still have another 100 years of coal left!

Scary! ....love your picture too!

Hi Terry-  Well,  I decided that if I don't say anything...then I have no reason to complain.  :)  I tried.

Hi Lisa,  I'm not a fan of politics myself.  But, I tried.  :)

Hi Kathy,  I agree.  If enough people stand up....maybe things will change?   :)  Maybe?

Hi Katerina,  I was glad to see that there was a Republicans for Environmental Protection.  Maybe there can be a bridge between the two parties.  ???  I doubt it.  :)

Hi Mary,  I signed up for several email deals while I was over there too.  We spend WAY TOO much money on utilities.  BUT....Good News.  :)  Mine this month dropped another $54 to $221.  I can't remember the last time my bill was that low.  WOW!!

When you are expecting "THE RAPTURE" tomorrow, 100 years is a long time. These people have to stop making decisions for the rest of us. Thank goodness it looks like they will be taken out of power soon.

I understand Google is getting into the alternative energy business.  It was reported on the evening news last night.  They are planning to focus on geothermal and solar power.
