The Bar Has Been Set High For Energy Efficieny In Houston, Tx!

Houston may be the energy efficient capital of the worldWhat is that sound?  AH, I think it is the Winds of Change and Growth for Green and Sustainable Home Building in Houston, Tx!  Read through this and let me know if you think this is the case...

Houston has always been known as a hub for Energy and Oil companies.  We have companies with offices here from all over the world.  Well, on October 4, 2007- Mayor Bill White made a statement in regards to the City making efforts to be more Energy Efficient.  He states that they will be using LED Traffic Lights, Energy Star Vending Machines, and many other avenues to save "over $34,000 a year in electricity costs and reduce annual CO 2 emissions by 277 tons."

He then went on to state that "...Our goal is to make Houston the energy conservation capital of the world. It makes good business sense.."   and he hopes that other Businesses in Houston will follow.

To read my prediction and personal request to Mayor White,  you can read the rest of the story at:

Isn't Houston a fairly sunny area?  I would think solar panels would certainly help, although the price to put in place is still fairly substantial.  Get the oil companies to subsidize solar, LOL

Hi Cyndee,  :) we'll see!  Thanks a million!!

Hi Dena,  I have no idea...but I hope you tell me.  :)

Thanks Mana!!  It is excellent news!

Hi Lisa,  Pretty crazy huh?!?   :)

Hi Fran,   :)  I'm trying.

Hi Lisa,  It would be nice if the energy companies would subsidize with solar....but I read somewhere that a train car full of coal costs $7.  I don't think it would be easy to get them to cut their bottom line.   :)

Maine, but everyone else is a close 2nd. Maine started their programs for energy savings back in the '70's

Hi Ann, I thought so myself.  :)

Hi Katerina,  it's for real...In that bill were several other items like...the schools have to reduced their usage by 10% (I think on the number...) and many more.  It's good stuff.  :)

Hi Stephanie! I think that is awesome but Mayor Bill will have to vie with Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor Michigan for that position he seeks! Great Goal he has and I would hope with some friendly competition between great cities the end result is that we create a more sustainable world for all! Competition has always been good!
