If you live in The Woodlands you will know how this Master Planned Community prides itself in maintaining GREEN space. If you are considering moving here, it is most likely because of the trees. Green is a popular color in The Woodlands.
However, The Woodlands is much more GREEN than just the trees. You will also see an extensive Recycling Program here as well. There are two locations in the area that can take nearly everything. I visited both centers today and saw everything from Cardboard to Televisions. It was quite impressive.
The center off of Research Forest Dr. is one street past the Bear Branch Sports Fields. This center can accept:
- Aluminum
- Steel Cans
- Glass
- Cardboard and Paperboard
- Plastic #1 and 2
- Yard Trimmings
- Paper--The Recycled Paper is actually a Fundraiser for Students in the Area.
The other center is off of Pruitt Rd. If you take Sawdust Rd. and head South on Budde, you will follow for a little over a mile and it will be on your left. This Center can accept many other items. Here is the list:
- Aluminum Cans
- Steel Cans
- Scrap Metal (not green)
- Glass Jars and Bottles (not green)
- Glass drinking mugs & glasses, window panes, plate glass, vases and light fixtures
- Paper
- Cardboard and Paperboard
- Plastic #1 and #2
- Residential Home Improvement Materials
- Tires
- Automobile Batteries
- Used Motor Oil
- Appliances
- Bulky Household Appliances
- Yard Trimmings
- Household Garbage
- Paper
As a Real Estate Agent with an EcoBroker Designation I am always looking for GREEN aspects in the community. This is just one of the ways that The Woodlands is striving for GREEN Standards. Stephanie....it's good to see certain communities even go green. Leah Ross just wrote this tonight also... South Tampa | Home Goes Green ~ Eco-Friendly Pest Control
It sounds like the Woodlands really cares about recycling, and that is great! It is not easy being green!
Thanks Jeff, I'll go check out Leah's post.
Hi Joanne, The recycling program is fantastic. They have the ability to accept nearly everything!
Hi Paula, How about just take one part of green and read about it. One step at a time. :)
Thanks Thesa, I do not believe that GREEN is a fad. Especially Recycling. There are so many recycled products that we now depend on recycling...if you think about it. Very interesting.
Hi Katerina, Yes ma'am. One step at a time. :)
Hi Ashley, I guess green building is coming next in The Woodlands.
Hi Matt, The Woodlands is a great place! You could live here and not ever leave..unless you had to go to the airport. Ammenities Galore!
Hey Sally, I was reading about Green Building the other day in Hawaii. I meant to forward the link....I'll have to find it again.
Stephanie,
Great topic - I haven't thought about writing on the local recycling center but it is a great thing to make sure folks know about. I hope you don't mind if I "borrow" your idea for my local market.
Hi Rita, I don't mind at all. Have at it and Have fun!! :)
Hi Susie, This recycling program is so extensive. There is even a County building nearby that can accept household cleaning products at can be toxic.
How can a Woodlands resident take an idea that would benifit the improvment of our storm drain's water quality, as well as limit the impact of insect, bacteria and disease exposure for every resident of the Woodlands, to a level of implementation?
Hi Scott, I would first try the monthly Owners Association meeting. You may not get very far with it, but you would get an idea of whether or not other residents would be willing to back you in the effort.
It is my understanding that some of the drainage is in part with Montgomery County so it would possibly be a combined effort between The Woodlands and the County.
Which should be these people:

To go directly to the operating company of The Woodlands I would try here:
Woodlands Operating Company L.P.
Private Company, Headquarters Location
2201 Timberloch Pl., The Woodlands, TX 77380-1141
(800)324-5214, (281)719-6100, (281)719-6177 fax
If you have already tried all of this, then I don't know. I would just say to work your way in the Chamber so you could get to know some of the 'decision makers' so to speak. I hope you get somewhere with it!
